Martial Arts Mayhem

Some more figures finished, all from Crooked Dice, and all intended for "A Fistful of Kung Fu." I'm not hugely experienced with the Hong Kong action cinema that the game is based on, so I'm adapting the game to the martial arts media I'm more familiar with - cheesy 80s martial arts movies, animation and fighting games.

For guys of my age, the first thing we think of when we hear the word "ninja" is the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I was a kid for the first wave of TMNT-mania, had tons of action figures, religiously begged to be taken to the theater for the live action movies.

These are figures that Crooked Dice picked up from an outside designer, rather than commissioning, so there's some design choices that are a little out of the ordinary for Crooked Dice here - all of the arms are separate pieces that attach at the elbows, and the ties on their masks are separate pieces as well. Definitely a challenge to assemble! I had four leftover urban bases from when I made the Webster Street Irregulars so I used those for them.

I also picked up the "Martial Arts Allies" pack from Crooked Dice:

These are April O'Neill, a TV news reporter and friend of the Turtles, Master Splinter, the martial artist who raised them, and Casey Jones, street vigilante and sporting goods enthusiast.

And finally, from outside the TMNT franchise, Crooked Dice's "Raging Brute":

He's pretty clearly based on Goro from the Mortal Kombat video games and films. The four-armed Shokan prince is a general in the armies of the evil Shao Khan, who is bent on adding Earth to his list of conquered territories. He's a five piece resin kit - body, the linked upper arms, the two lower arms and the topknot.

Up next, more ninjas, including the Turtles' arch-nemesis, the Shredder. I splashed out a bit on some new figures this week, and I'll update the tracker as they come in, but I'd like to make some headway and try and get further into the green before they do.
